What do I ask for at my shower?
Ok, this is my second child. My son is almost seven. I have a couple of showers being thrown for me. The problem is that I really don't need anything! I am saving up for a very expensive stroller and am using cloth diapers. We have everything else thanks to so many friends giving us their stuff they no longer use. I also have all the clothes I will need for the next few years. What I really need are gift cards to Target and another store where I want to purchase my stroller. Is it rude to tell people not to buy the baby clothes? Or if asked should I suggest a gift card?

Tough call...can you pass the word through your friends that are throwing it that Gift Cards are the best bet? You really can't stop them from buying you what they want to buy you...but maybe they could help spread the word.

I don't think its rude to say no clothes. I told my sister to please tell everyone that I don't need any clothes. I too have enough clothes for at least a year. I would think it would be ok to ask for gift cards toward the stroller you want. Just have that info put on the invites.

You could tell them you're registered at Target. Then register there and only put gift cards on your registry Plus if they get you something at Target and you have no receipt you can still get store credit!

Great ideas. I just don't want to end up with a bunch of onesies and bottles (I will be breastfeeding)! I just don't want to seem ungrateful. This will be my last kiddo and I know they grow so fast so I want to be able to use everything I get.

I would just tell a few people that you want GC's to a certain store. Then have them passing it along to others so goes threw the grape vine.
If your invites have not gone out then I would have something in there saying you would prefer GC's to.....
Something cute to just not coming right out and saying it.

You might also ask the people organizing the showers to let people know. We had a couple of showers, and at one of them most of the people went in together on the dresser we wanted/needed, which was great.
Out theory was that some people would buy us clothing no matter what, so we registered for a few outfits, thinking that we would exchange the clothes purchased from the registry, which they will let you do without a receipt. It didn't work out as well as we had hoped, since for some reason the clothes didn't get marked as purchased on the registry, so now we can't exchange them.
I'm just looking at it as a positive, even the things we don't really need. If our friends hadn't been so generous, we wouldn't have anything at all, so a few more things than we need is a blessing. I just hope he doesn't come home from the hospital too big for newborn clothes, since we have a couple of REALLY cute pooh outfits in that size.
