Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
So what are thoughts on having a shower for a second child, but your first child of that gender? We're having a boy next but it's our first. Either way, no one I know has mentioned anything about doing a shower for me...I'm not the type to be like, throw me a shower, I want stuff! I just love baby showers and whether I got stuff or not, it's the thought that counts, right? I have given up hope of having one at this point (25 days left)... I figure maybe I'll just have a welcoming party a little while after he's born, since that is something you could technically throw for yourself. The sad thing is, since I am so into sewing and creating stuff, etc., I have been to so many baby showers since we moved here and made all this really great stuff for people....so I thought someone would realize I hadn't had a shower yet....the last one I went to was for a friend who was also having her second child but first girl..so I know people don't have a problem with second showers. Oh well...lol. Funny thing is, DH was kind of annoyed that people hadn't mentioned doing anything for me as well....he knows all the stuff I've made for others. He said, "I would throw you a baby shower." Too bad that's "not allowed".... Anyways, I don't post much, but I thought I would just put my slight vent out there.
Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
Do you have family near? Just wondering if DH can hit up his family to throw you one. I am having a shower in a couple of weeks but the funny thing is that it is not being thrown by my really good friends. They never planned anything for me. The shower is being given by some newer friends who I am just getting to know. My older friends who are invited seem a little embarrassed that they did not plan one for me first. I am also inviting all of the ladies that I have gone to their showers. If you don't get a shower then I think that you should have a "come see the baby" after the baby is born.

I really wanted a shower. I thought I was getting a surprise shower, but I guess not. I know it is number 4, but we were done at number 3 and got rid of almost everything.
I really did not want a real shower. I more wanted just a sprinkle. Everybody getting together with some good food, yummy cake and just getting some small things to help us out. Like diapers, wipes, bibs, burp rags.
Oh well.

Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
My family only believes in throwing a shower for your first baby, so they haven't done anything since. This is the largest age gap between the last child and the new baby, plus they knew I got rid of 90% of my baby gear since we weren't planning on anymore so I was kind of hoping they'd throw one to help out. No such luck.
For dc 2,3, and 4 I worked at the same place. They always threw me a work shower, so at least I did end up getting one each time. Those were small, but fun, and very thoughtful for them to throw me a shower each time.
This time, I'm a sahm. Dh and I have bought everything, we only have a few things left. Nobody has even asked what we need. So I'm assuming we'll just get clothes after baby is here. That's fine, and I'll have to drop hints that we need no 0-3 mos sizes.
That stinks that you made so many homemade baby shower gifts but yet nobody seems to remember that right now when you could use your own shower. Could dh ask any nearby family to put something small together? Otherwise, I agree that you should throw a meet & greet after baby is here.

Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
My shower was cancelled, so while someone planned it, it never happened, but it was my choice to cancel it, Olivia was so sick I didn't want to leave her. But I just wanted to put it out there, that I think regardless of what gender you have, or how many children you have, your girlfriends should all get together to celebrate the pregnancy and new life. I hosted one for my GF who was having her second and she in turn was planning on hosting mine, had I not done hers first, not sure she would have thought about it, she just like that. But my newer neighborhood friends are throwing me just a small dinner party tomorrow night, we have a girls night once a month and last month it was to celebrate another pending arrival (who arrived on Saturday Night actually) so this month is my turn. The interesting thing about my shower was that most of my close close college friends weren't making the trip down from DC for it, since it was Inauguration Weekend, they didn't want to deal with traffic. But in general my friends haven't made a big deal about this pregnancy at all, when we were pregnant with Olivia we got presents when we announced the pregnancy, cards left and right, and I think we might have gotten 5 cards total during this one, and yes we are having another girl, but it just surprises me, I know with my friends that have had two or more, I am still doing stuff for them, people are just strange
Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
Thanks for all the ideas/thoughts so far. We both have family within reasonable driving distance, but his is still about 3 hours and mine is about 4.5 hours. The meet and greet at this point is probably going to be the easiest thing to do. I'll just have to think about when to have it. Maybe when he's a month old...just have to make sure I have one request...nope, not for presents, just no kids and only healthy adults...lol. Can't be too sure. Maybe I'll have it earlier if the weather here in GA stays fairly mild. We'll see what happens.
Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
I have heard many people say "only one shower" but you have nothing for a boy so why not. I would throw you one if I were closer. I am on my second child but it has been over 9 years so I guess people assumed that I would have nothing left and of course I don't. It is my second girl also. Maybe you will get a surprise one, throw some hints if you have to.
Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
I think the "Welcome Baby" party is a great idea if no one throws you one. But like a PP said, maybe it's a BIG OLE SUPRISE! I would certainly drop hints too..hehe.

I didnt get a shower . I was expecting not to have any more. So I sold everything of my 2 year olds. I have only had 1 shower before, when I was carrying the twins, and I am thankful to have had that, but I still have yet to buy everything and my baby, Madison will be home soon, like you all.

I just got off the phone up there and the nurse said to bring her carseat up and diaperbag stuff this weekend. As they say it will be soon. They havent given me a day yet but Im thinking next week, as we will have to watch videos and teaching things. Im kinda freakin out cuz its happening so fast and im just not ready at all. I cant wait for her to be home but I dont have anything but clothes for her. I dont know why I waited for the last minute. Hoping income tax gets back in time to get everything. They said she will definatly be coming home on oxygen though. They took her off yesterday to have a trial and she went 20 minutes and then her oxygen went down in the 80's. So shes not ready for that.

Andrea - that is great news. I can't wait to see pictures of her in her own "bed". So exciting. And you will be great with her!!!

As for the shower thing...yes, I'm definitely disappointed that I didn't get one this time around. 2nd baby but 1st boy. Thank goodness my sister has 2 boys (one is 4, the other isn't even 1 yet), both born this time of year. So she's loaded me up with clothes, blankets, towels, shoes...all "boy" stuff. Luckily I still had all my equipment from Ava, but he sure is going to look a little silly in a pink bouncy seat Oh well! I think I'm more like you girls though...it's more about the celebration and thought than the presents. I think I'll try your "Welcome Baby" party idea. Maybe around 6 weeks? Sounds great!

Re: Anyone NOT having a shower, but actually wanting one?
I did not have a shower for my first.
I moved to a new city did not know anyone and DH and my families were miles away (still are). Friends and family did a 'virtual shower' and basically ordered a bunch of stuff off my registry to be sent to me.
This pregnancy I was thrown a surprise one at work today. Yay!
And a new friend of mine in town is hosting one for me Feb 28!
I did not think I was getting one either (I am not one to entertain)! People kept asking me if I was having one, and when I told them I wasn't because I had no friends here.
Well my one friend I told this to, took it upon herself to organize one for me. She is really sweet, and I won't know most of the people there...but it was a very kind gesture on her part.
Mention to people you are not having one, and maybe (as in my case) someone will volunteer to host one for you.
Good Luck.
