Update on Leigh!

Congratulations! I am sending you and Avery lots of love. Can't wait to see pictures of her. My sister would be so jealous. She is praying Ruby is 9lbs. She is a postpartum nurse and says she loves the chubby babies.

Hey Girls,

You are all so sweet, thank you for your kind words and prayers. We are hanging in there, so blessed that she is here and for now safe, its scary, but we know in the grand scheme of things that we are very fortunate. The baby next to her is going home tomorrow, he was 2lbs 7oz when he was born and is going home at just under 4lbs, Avery looks like a Hippo next to him, its adorable. She is still hooked to monitors and machines, and is under an oxygen hood, they are cutting her oxygen back slowly and she is still holding strong at 100%, which is great news. It appears as though the antibiotics are working on the fluid and slight infection, but we will know more on that front once the blood culture comes back tomorrow or Friday (it takes 3 days and they ran it late last night). We haven't held her, but we can touch her, so that keeps us going, she is super strong, loves to swing and kick at us.

They started her on a feeding tube today, but are keeping the IV in as well (mostly for the meds), they told us not to freak out if we come in and the IV is in her head because their little veins can only take so much, and they have to move the IV often...I was thankful for the warning.

I am being discharged tomorrow and we aren't yet sure when Avery will come home, we hope to see the Cardiologist and Neonatologist again this evening to get an update, but its tough to catch up with those guys.

Thank you all again for your kind words!!! The prayers are helping, she was much calmer this afternoon when I was with her...and she loves her Paci, she attacks it just like Olivia did...I keep telling them she is starving, what 9lb 12oz child wouldn't be hungry? HA.

I will keep the updates coming when we know more...

Leigh--it's good to see you on here and get an update on Avery!! I must have missed a post because the last I heard there was something with her heart flap and also she had fluid in her lungs....what is going on with her heart? Please keep us posted, I'm sorry you haven't been able to hold her yet, but at least you can touch her and talk to her--she knows you love her!!

Glad to hear that she is holding strong!! She sounds like a fighter Leigh and I bet the difference between her and her next door neighbor is something to smile about!! Stay strong and we look forward to more updates!!!

Yes one of her "ducts"/flaps didn't close at birth like it should have (happens when they take their first breath), I think its similiar to what Baby Madison needed meds for, but they suspect it will close on its own in 48-72 hours, if it does not, I believe meds can be used...the Cardiologist seems to think that won't be necessary, but we won't know for sure for a few days.
