Labor question for moms with more then baby
My labor with my first child was less than 4 hours..my body had no problem getting ready for it at all! I was dialated at 3 cm already the week before. My contrations had no warm up period at all they went rite from 4 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart in less then an hour. Well the dr told me that usually the second labor is even faster.
I wondering if that is true for the most part or If I actually have some hope this time to have more warning and a slightly longer labor. Have any of you mommys had a fast labor with the first and a longer with the second? I really want to make it to the hospital this time..I barely did last time and my hospital is less them 15 minutes away!

Even though it's baby #4, it'll be labor #2. I could only HOPE it goes faster. My first labor was over 26 hours and I pushed for one.
I'm guessing each labor is still different and it may or may not go faster, depending on how baby is positioned and if he/she is ready.

Well someone mentioned something about cervix being one of the reasons labor is slower the first time..because its thinned but not dialated...I had no problems at all with my cervix thinning or dialating so Im thinking it may be about the same as the last one. Also my son was pushing himself out so Im sure that had to do with speeding things up...Im just terrafied of having an unprepared home birth. Im more comfortable in a hospital!Karri_B wrote:Even though it's baby #4, it'll be labor #2. I could only HOPE it goes faster. My first labor was over 26 hours and I pushed for one.

I wish there was a way to know exactly what was going on and going to happen with every aspect of having a baby but unfortunitly there is no printed scheduel.

My first was 5 hours and my second was 4 so I totally understand your worry about not making it in time. I was induced with my others though so hopefully if I go on my own this time it wont be so fast. My doc said that they are still gonna watch me close this time because while it could be very different and take 8 hours it could also go very fast and be like 2 and me not make it and I am SOOOO not down with a home birth. H would pass out and I would be left to deliver a baby by myself..not cool...lol

My first labor was four hours and about 10 minutes of pushing. My second was an hour and 16 minutes and two pushes. I am actually hoping for a little bit longer just so we know we have time! LOL My youngest was very premature so I am sure that was a huge factor in his speedy delivery though. The first was just a month premature.

Both of my sons were late, and I was induced with both, I had 10-12 hour labors with both. my first I pushed about 30 mnutes, with my second when he was ready he was ready, and I pushed twice and he was born. I hoping for a shorter labor than I had, but we'll see. I'd also kinda like to go into labor myself, but my hospital is a good 30 minutes away. But if i have 12 hour labor being induced, how long will I be naturally?????

If you go into labor naturally, my guess is that the labor would be a lot shorter, since your body isn't being forced to do something it's not ready to do.Jillian21180 wrote:Both of my sons were late, and I was induced with both, I had 10-12 hour labors with both. my first I pushed about 30 mnutes, with my second when he was ready he was ready, and I pushed twice and he was born. U're probably right, but, how long is unsafe for a baby to stay in the womb post - duedate?? my doc generally doesn't wait more that 2 weeks. With my second I expressed that I wanted to 'go into labor' but of course as I got farther and not moch was really happening, I accepted the induction.
and he said that by the look of his skin he was 'old' in there.
Is it possible not to go into natural labor???

Re: Labor question for moms with more then baby
Gestation is different for every woman. It helps to know the actual date of conception to know the actual gestational age.
At 42 weeks, Drs/MWs are concerned about deterioration of the placenta and it's ability to provide oxygen and nutrients to the baby. However, non-stress tests can be done, along w/ daily kick counts, to make sure that everything is okay. I've never heard of anyone NOT going into labor. That would be interesting to find out.
I have read of women going to 47 weeks. That could have been a mistake in gestational age, however.
DD was 41 weeks and 6 days gestation when she was born. Granted, it was a VBA2C so my uterus was trying to be protective, but I had a 26 hour labor with little under and hour of pushing. I am REALLY HOPING this one will be shorter! I will, however, be telling people to expect baby around the middle of March, no sooner. LOL

Re: Labor question for moms with more then baby
I have asked my Dr this each time. They have all said you shave 30 minutes to an hour off each labor before. That is the norm. However sometimes it goes the other way.
Example:
ds #1 labor 8 hours plus 90 minutes of pushing
dd labor 3 hours 30 minutes plus 10 minutes of pushing
ds #2 labor 9.5 hours plus 45 minutes of pushing
So dd was super fast then the next one not so much.
