The Business of Being Born is a documentary that exposes how women in the US have been convinced that they are incapable of having a healthy baby without medical intervention during delivery. It explores the rising rates of C-sections, scheduled births, induction, the use of epidural and pain meds, and the contrast between natural and "medically assisted" childbirth. I recommend you track a copy down if you are interested in owning your birth experience, especially if you are having a hospital birth. It gives you the down and dirty about how doctors will move you along in labor to meet their shift deadline or to open up an additional bed if you have been there too long. Great film!
