Postpartum wardrobe- any thoughts? Empty Postpartum wardrobe- any thoughts?

I was just thinking about what the heck I am going to wear after the baby comes. I've been told not to expect to fit into my old clothes for at least 6 months (or maybe never again, who knows). I was also told that around 6 months you sort of hit the size that you are going to be and should not invest in good new clothes until that point either. While I am sure that wearing the maternity pants is going to feel great for the first couple weeks, I do not want to be cruising around with elastic waist pants for months on end. Also, I am not sure how well non-nursing clothes (like a summer time maxi dress) would convert to holding nursing pads or how much I am going to feel like hiking up a t-shirt to nurse. Has anyone thought of some inexpensive wardrobe additions that can replace the maternity clothes and would also work for nursing?

Here's what I have thought of:
*cotton capri leggings
*men's button down shirts
*a couple nursing tanks
*wife-beater tanks w/ holes cut over boobs (to wear as a base layer under non-nursing tops so when I lift, no tummy exposure)

Any other ideas?

I remember feeling really discouraged after having my son. Nothing fit! I didn't want to wear maternity clothes anymore, but that was the only alternative. I did end up buying some sizes that were larger than I would normally wear. It is just that you will be losing weight every week so your clothes will fit different all the time. I plan to hide out while I am in the awkward stage and just try hard to get into my normal size stretchy pants. I will also be borrowing some of my husbands clothes for a while.

Ugh.. I've thought about this.. and then moved right on to thinking about the next topic.. lol. It depresses me. I'm thankful that it'll start getting warm soon after Aniras arrives, I will be walking my tooshy off. I really hope I can work out as much as I'd like to and fit into a size somewhere close to my pre-preg size before TOO TOO long. Ughh.. the thought..lol.

It's a great question and you're right, dresses aren't too practical for nursing. I'll be going right back to work so I'm hoping to wear what I already have. Nursing will mainly take place at home (I'll pump at work) so I hadn't really thought about the practicality of hiking up a shirt, etc. Hubby's shirts sound appealing and nursing camisoles sound like a good idea too. At least it will be warmer weather so anything new we do have to buy should be a little cheaper!!!

Thankfully, I still have a whole range of clothes from when I had Ava. I was a size 6 when I got pregnant with her. When I went back to work after, I was a size 12...but remember that I gained 50 pounds (just like this time...ugh!). I bought around 4-5 pairs of work pants for each size until I finally landed at an 8 (ALMOST a 6 again) right when I got pregnant with Owen. My thought at the time was that I knew I would be having at least one more baby, so I might as well buy a few basic things in each size. Shirts are a little easier and can be more forgiving depending on the style...skirts are great too. It was the pants that were the hardest. Honestly, I bought a bunch of my post pregnancy stuff at consignment shops or on ebay...especially the shirts. As far as clothes for bf goes...I'm no expert since I was only able to nurse for the first few weeks while I was at home.
