Baby Liam is here!

I went in for a regular appointment a week ago, when I was four days overdue. My doctor scheduled an induction for the next day, and sent me for a non-stress test. The test showed late decels, so they sent me over to L&D to have the baby. They induced my on Friday afternoon, and I then had 24 hours of labor with no progression beyond 4-5 cm. They stripped my membranes, they used a foley balloon to enlarge the cervix, they kept turning the pitocin up, and they broke my water, but he didn't descend and my cervix refused to dilate any more. It turned out that he was sunny side up and couldn't fit down through the pelvis.

Eventually, they said that my cervix was swelling and that there was no real option but to do a c-section. The doctor said that when they opened me up, he was looking up at them because of being in backwards. A c-section was not what I had planned, but I did end up with a beautiful baby boy, and that's all I wanted. He was 7 lb 10 oz, and 20.5 in long. I think he's beautiful, but of course I'm a little biased. Here are a couple of pictures.





We are now home from the hospital and are just getting the hang of breast feeding, which is not quite as automatic as I had hoped. It's worth the effort though, when I see him looking up at me. It took me so long to post because my recovery from the surgery has been slow, but I'm grateful my mom is here to help.

Congratulations, Liam is adorable. I am sorry that your experience wasn't what you wanted, but like you said, a healthy, beautiful baby is all you wanted and thats what you got
