Got Milk!!! - Page 2 Empty Nursing Humor!

Post  SequoiaAutumn Tue Mar 10, 2009 3:02 pm

Dr. Seuss for Nursing Moms

Would you nurse her in the park?
Would you nurse him in the dark?
Would you nurse him with a Boppy?
And when your boobs are feeling floppy?

I would nurse him in the park,
I would nurse her in the dark.
I'd nurse with or without a Boppy.
Floppy boobs will never stop me.

Can you nurse with your seat belt on?
Can you nurse from dusk till dawn?
Though she may pinch me, bite me, pull,
I will nurse her `till she's full!

Can you nurse and make some soup?
Can you nurse and feed the group?
It makes her healthy strong and smart,
Mommy's milk is the best start!

Would you nurse him at the game?
Would you nurse her in the rain?
In front of those who dare complain?
I would nurse him at the game.
I would nurse her in the rain.

As for those who protest lactation,
I have the perfect explanation.
Mommy's milk is tailor made
It's the perfect food, you need no aid.

Some may scoff and some may wriggle,
Avert their eyes or even giggle.
To those who can be cruel and rude,
Remind them breast's the perfect food!

I would never scoff or giggle,
Roll my eyes or even wiggle!
I would not be so crass or crude,
I KNOW that this milk's the perfect food!

We make the amount we need
The perfect temp for every feed.
There's no compare to milk from breast-
The perfect food, above the rest.

Those sweet nursing smiles are oh so sweet,
Mommy's milk is such a treat.
Human milk just can't be beat.

I will nurse, in any case,
On the street or in your face.
I will not let my baby cry,
I'll meet her needs, I'll always try.
It's not about what's good for you,
It's best for babies, through and through.

I will nurse her in my home,
I will nurse her when I roam.
Leave me be lads and ma'am.
I will nurse her, Mom I am

Hi Ladies!
Just wanted to give you all a bit of encouragement. Gabe is month old already (hard to believe!) and I had a rough start nursing him. After a lot of frustration on his part and mine, we've finally got it down. Very Happy

Way to hang in there TLD! My first was a huge struggle and I also hung in there. There were a lot of tears!!!!! I am hoping that this baby will just know what to do and that I will be more relaxed this time around.

Thats awesome to hear. Its also nice to know we aren't alone in this and that we have each other for support and advice.

i love the poem, April! so sweet, and so true!!

i took a breastfeeding class given by a lactation specialist, and she said milk can be frozen and stored for a year. i am wondering how it's going to go for me and Miles (like will i produce enough to store up a supply?)... i am getting a clear picture of how challenging it can be at the start. i'm also curious about how my "little" girls are going to handle their new job... we shall see! they've been leaking colostrum for months, so i know they are primed for action. it won't be long, and i will have answers to many of my questions... bounce

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage-preemie.html

Here are some guidelines for milk storage. I wasnt exactly sure so I had to look it up.

Human Milk Storage - Guidelines for premature infants
Milk storage guidelines are different for premature or hospitalized babies, as these babies are more at risk for infection -- discuss these guidelines with your baby's health care provider.

For milk storage information for healthy, full term babies, see Breastmilk Storage & Handling.

HUMAN MILK STORAGE - QUICK REFERENCE CARD
(Guidelines for Premature Infants)
Storage Time
Freshly expressed milk (Refrigerate ASAP if not using within 4 hours)
Room temperature 4 hours
Refrigerated Milk (Store at back; do not store in door.)
Refrigerator (fresh milk) 48 hours
Refrigerator (thawed milk) 24 hours
Frozen Milk (Store at back; do not store in door. Do not refreeze.)
Freezer compartment inside refrigerator door Not recommended
Freezer compartment with separate door 3 months
Deep freeze (not attached to refrigerator) 6 months
Transporting milk (Fresh, Refrigerated or Frozen)
Pack in insulated cooler with ice or “blue ice” 24 hours
Save ALL the milk you pump – your milk is important to your baby.

Storing your milk: Label storage container with your baby’s name and date/time of expression. Rigid plastic or glass storage containers are best.

The fresher the better! When possible, take your pump kit to the hospital to pump fresh milk for baby’s next feeding. When pumping at home, refrigerate milk if you plan to get your milk to the hospital within 48 hours; otherwise freeze the milk. Milk that is in the refrigerator may be frozen within 48 hours.

Store milk in 1-4 ounce portions to avoid waste and for easier thawing/warming. Milk expressed from both breasts may be combined into one container. Fill container no more than 2/3 full to allow for expansion when freezing. Cap with a solid lid (not a bottle nipple).

Thawing frozen milk: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, or stand container in a bowl of warm water (without wetting lid) until thawed.

Previously frozen milk may be kept in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours after it has finished thawing. Do not refreeze.

Warming your milk: Heat water in a cup or other small container, then place container of milk in the water to warm. Do not place milk in boiling water. NEVER microwave human milk or heat it directly on the stove.

Handling: The cream will rise to the top of the milk during storage. Gently swirl milk (do not shake) to mix before checking temperature and offering to baby.

If baby does not finish milk, the unused warmed milk should be discarded at the end of the feeding.

I haven't been on in awhile and I'm glad I saw this thread. I've also been having a hard time breastfeeding. My story is similar to Dee's. How are you doing now by the way Dee? I feed on one side and then the next feeding I do the other side. If I get too engorged I do pump and store it in the freezer. I'm having latching issues. And my right boob is so cracked and sore Crying or Very sad I had a meltdown the other day, it hurt so bad that I started crying, Ronin was crying b/c he was hungry and then I freaked him out with my crying...sigh...it wasn't a pretty picture. We have our good feedings and bad. I just can't wait till we get this down. Like Dee, I'm determined to do this! At his weight check he gained weight so he's getting fed and we have our 2 week check-up this Friday so I'm anxious to see how he's doing. Its just encouraging to see that I'm not alone in this.

Keep it up Rochelle! It will get easier. No one can ever prepare you for how hard it is to breastfeed physically and emotionally. Hang in there and it will be totally worth it.

Breastfeeding was extremely difficult and painful in the beginning. My nipples were cracked, sore, bleeding and scabbing. And it hurt horribly whenever she would latch on... it literally felt like someone was sticking needles into my nipples. The feedings at night were hard to get used to; I was very sleep-deprived in the beginning. But everything is much better now! Naminai is 3 weeks old tomorrow, and everything is great!! Don't let the pain and discomfort discourage you! Just remember it's for a good cause, and it's the best for your baby Smile It's great bonding for you and your baby, aswell I love you
