Jake's first Dr's visit Empty Jake's first Dr's visit

Post  daj72705 Wed Mar 04, 2009 1:49 am

Today we had Jake's first office visit. When we left the hospital his weight was 8 pounds today he is weighing in at 8 pounds 4 oz, so yay for the weight gain. The dr we saw today is also a lactation specialist. She watched me feed Jake and gave me a few suggestions. Hopefully, soon the sore nipples will heal. She said Jake was latching on perfectly and we looked liked a natural. Plus my milk came in, oh my goodness what a strange feeling. Anywho I am so happy that the breastfeeding is going so well because there are painful times still that I wonder why am I doing this. Jake's Jaundice is clearing up. His weight is in the 60 to 70% and his height is in the 90%. Since Jake is breastfeed we are going to be giving him some vitamins. So YAY for a good first check up!!

Afterwards we went baby shopping..too much fun.

I am so glad to hear everything is going good! Alyssa has her next doctor appt. on Thursday to check her weight. She was 6 lbs. 7 oz. at her first one a couple of weeks ago. The bonus is her pediatrician is a hottie!!!

I know that this has been discussed before and up for debate, but why does your doctor suggest vitamins for the baby when you are breastfeeding? I will be asking my pediatrician if I will need to do this.

the vitamins is a new thing. i cant remember which vitamins its written down feeding jake at the moment. even with breastfeeding there r a few vitamins that is lacking in breast milk or not getting enough. just like our obs i am sure our pediatricians will say different things. letme know what your dr says.

I have never heard of vitamins for b/f'ing either. Either its new or like you said.. each doctors opinions differ. I am going to be checking with my lactation specialist on this too. Im curious what others say where your all at. I didnt do the vitamin k shot in the hospital so i have increased my green leafy veg's in my diet. Its a good thing.. cause dh has been making salad with spinach at every lunch and dinner. the vitamin k will go into her from the bveges into the milk. hense no shot...

I think you're right with the different docs having different opinions of vitamins while b/f. I b/f all 4 of mine, and never gave them additional vitamins. The first 3 kids had a different ped, then she retired and the ped that took over her practice I had Connor as a newborn. Neither of them recommended vitamins. Since there is a varying opinion on this, it probably is fine either way.
