Totally Irrational (Rant)
DH and I have decided to trade in our car for an SUV this fall/winter to make it easier to deal with car seats and all that fun stuff. We decided months ago on a Hyundai Santa Fe. I really like them, and I drove one as a rental once and it was really a good car. Our stupid coworker started talking him into a Subaru Forester, and now he's convinced! I have never liked Foresters...I don't care if they changed the body style in 2009 - I still don't like them.
I told him that I can't talk about it right now, because I'm on the verge of tears about it. It's just a stupid car, but I know what I don't want, and I think it's really unfair of him to just change his mind without my permission! The price is pretty similar and so are the features, so I just don't get why he would try to change things now. He doesn't have any good arguments or reasons for wanting the change, so that makes it even harder for me.
I know I'm being totally irrational, but if I don't vent somewhere I'm seriously going to lose it. Thanks for letting me blow off some steam. He better not try to bring it up on our bus ride home. Grr...

Honestly, the Sante Fes are not good for carseats. my SIL had one and it was impossible to install a rear facing convertible seat properly. I guess they are known for that. I highly suggest you get the carseat you want and make sure it will fit properly.

I hadn't heard that, and it's obviously important. Thanks for the heads up...I'll definitely look into that more.

That didn't last very long did it!
How are they with gas??
we are going to be looking into a minivan... which I always said I wouldn't drive, but with #3 on the way it is much more practical!!!! and they're better on gas than the huge suv's, since I want to have extra seats.

They're not great with gas - 19/24 I think. But we don't really drive much. I'm guessing that will change since lugging around baby stuff on a bus will probably get old fast. I may cave someday on a minivan, but I can't do it yet.
my .02 cents
Get your carseat of choice and take it with you when looking at the cars. Get it in and see how easy it is to get it in and out. Does it have the extra latches that car seat manufacturues are reccomending now?
We didn't know to do that before we had kids and wound up with something that didn't quite work with car seats. Now, if we are car shopping we go with clean carseats! ( I know it sounds silly, but if I'm going to put them into car after car, I don't want to leave old snacks that have fallen between the cracks in each car!)
We are one of those families that finally got a minivan. We have a pontiac montana. Its okay, but I'd really prefer a town and country or grand caravan. I really wanted the stow n go, but couldn't get financed for the 5000 more it would have taken to get it.
GL!!
